Wilton Mini Whoopie Pie Pan, reviewed

I wasn’t entirely sure that I needed a Mini Whoopie Pie Pan when I first heard about them. They’re put out by Wilton and they are lightweight, nonstick pans that bake twenty four tiny cakes at a time. The little cakes are about the size of mini muffin tops, and they are perfect for making bite sized whoopie pies, but they can also be used for other applications. You can use them to make mini ice cream sandwiches, single serving layer cakes (very cute for parties) and to make push cakes, like the kind that I made this year for the 4th of July
The pan is completely nonstick and the cakes pop out of it very easily, even if the cakes you are working with are on the soft side. The pan comes with a recipe that is perfectly scaled to fit it, but you can make just about any recipe for cake or cupcakes work with the pan as long as you keep an eye on the baking time. As an alternative to cakes and whoopie pies, you can drop in brownie batter or cookie dough for perfectly round, bite-sized cookies.
The reason that I didn’t think that I would get much use out of the pan initially is that I didn’t see how versatile it could be. I should have known better because I love mini cakes and use my mini muffin pans all the time to bake cakes, brownies and teeny tiny muffins for breakfast and brunch. The pan is easy to use and bakes very evenly, and is definitely something that is fun to have in the kitchen if you also like to bake bite sized or mini desserts because you will come up with lots of creative uses for cakes, cookies and other baked goods that are this size.
