Bakeless Sweets

Bakeless SweetsMaking dessert doesn’t mean that you always have to turn on the oven and do some baking. There are all kinds of no-bake desserts out there to choose from – and “no-bake” encompases a lot more than a box of Jell-o pudding mix. Bakeless Sweets: Pudding, Panna Cotta, Fluffs, Icebox Cakes, and More No-Bake Desserts is a cookbook that includes all kinds of no-bake desserts, from very simple to very elegant, giving you a reference packed with recipes that you can make any time you don’t want to use the oven.

The book features seven chapters, dividing up the basic types of no-bake desserts into broad categories: Stirred Puddings & Custards; Rice, Tapioca & Whole Grain Puddings; Panna Cotta & Other Gelled Puddings; Mousse & Blender Puddings; Real Fruit Jellies; Whipped Cream Desserts & Fluffs; and Icebox Cakes, Pies, Trifles & Cookies. There are desserts that you can make on the stovetop and desserts that require no baking at all. There are recipes that are simple enough to make for the kids on short notice as well as homemade alternatives desserts that you might find on an elegant restaurant dessert menu. It is a wide range of options in a category that you might not spend that much time thinking about – and they all sound very tempting.

The recipes are easy to follow and the book is packed with tips for making sure they turn out perfectly, as well as advice for troubleshooting any problems that might come up along the way. The photos are mouthwatering, too. The hardest part will be deciding where to start – although the fact that it is summer now and we are looking forward to some hot weather in the next few months will make no-bake dessert sound even more appealing than usual. When it comes to choosing a recipe to start with, one feature that you might find especially handy is the “Puddings For Every Occasion” guide included in the book. This breaks up the recipes into categories that will make it very easy to find the type of recipe you’re looking for for any occasion, from the 10 Quickest Recipes to 10 Dairy-Free Recipes to 10 Recipes for a Big Crowd.
