  • I’ve always said that strawberries and chocolate is a winning combination in any form and the Roasted Strawberry Chocolate Ice Cream that She Makes and Bakes put together is the perfect example. This ice cream starts out with fresh strawberries that are roasted to intensify their natural sweetness and tenderize them. The roasted berries are added to a base of rich, chocolate ice cream during the last few minutes that the ice cream churns, so that they get well incorporated into the mix but are still whole enough to stand out and give every scoop a pop of red.
  • Cereal milk is exactly what it sounds like: the sweet milk that is left at the bottom of the bowl after you eat your cereal. This is the best part of eating cereal for some people, and the popular restaurant Momofuku in NY started making it to use as an ingredient in many of their dessert recipes. Cook Republic set out to make some Homemade Cereal Milk that could be used without a trip to NYC. The milk is made by infusing regular milk with cereal and a bit of sugar. Once infused, it can be used in ice creams, puddings and other recipes to give them the very familiar flavor of childhood.
  • A mojito is a very refreshing cocktail made with rum, lime juice, sugar and mint. This flavor combination is terrific in a cocktail, but also works in all kinds of desserts. Sugar and Snapshot‘s Mojito Genoise Cake is a beautiful two-layer cake that definitely captures the freshness of the drink that inspired it! The cake starts out with a simple, airy genoise cake. This cake is soaked in a syrup made with sugar, rum and lime juice that has been kissed with fresh mint. The moist layers are flavorful on their own, but the whole thing really comes together when the cake is put together with lime buttercream frosting.
  • Zucchini is a versatile vegetable, and while it is a delicious addition to all kinds of savory meals, I always save some to make zucchini bread. I’ve also used zucchini in cookies before, but never in cookies as decadent looking as Two Peas and Their Pod‘s Chocolate Fudge Zucchini Cookies. The deep, dark color of these cookies just screams chocolate. They’re moist and tender, enriched with both yogurt and butter. Cocoa powder is what gives the cookies their color and a dark chocolate flavor, but the cookies are packed with chocolate chips, too. You’d never know that there is zucchini in these – but once you know, you won’t have to feel guilty reaching for seconds.
