  • Dashing Dish put a very modern twist on classic apple pie with some lovely Layered Apple Pies. These towering pies are constructed like Napoleons, with layers of crisp, sweetened wonton wrappers acting as the pasty between layers of homemade apple pie filling. It’s definitely a fun way to plate your dessert and to give it a slightly more elegant look than a regular slice of pie has.
  • Cinnamon swirl bread is available in the bread aisle year round and is perfect for making buttery toast. The Pumpkin Cinnamon Swirl Bread that Cooking Classy recently baked puts a fall twist on this favorite loaf. The yeast bread has pumpkin puree in the dough, which gives it a slightly orange color and a nice sweetness. It also makes the bread soft and moist, so you get a better contrast between the crisp exterior and tender interior after you toast a slice. It’s good on its own and it makes great french toast.
  • Many bread pudding recipes direct you to use a very rich bread like challah or brioche for the best results. Culinary Concoctions by Peabody used a whole loaf of cinnamon raisin bread in her Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding for a more flavorful bread pudding base. The bread pudding is simple and derives much of its flavor from the bread used and from the brown sugar sweetening the custard mixture. The cinnamon toffee sauce is what takes this dish over the top, with a rich and sweet caramel taste. This bread pudding is a great dessert, but it would also make an outstanding brunch dish. You could also put a fall twist on it by using a loaf of the pumpkin swirl bread linked to above!
  • I think that Food Plus Words had a great idea when deciding to bake Maple Bacon Mini Cupcakes. The combination of maple and bacon is a salty-sweet one that works well for both breakfast and dessert. The brilliant part of these cupcakes, however, is the fact that they’re bite sized. This makes them much cuter, more tempting and a lot easier to eat than their larger cousins. You get the perfect ratio of bacon-studded maple bacon cupcakes and maple vanilla bean buttercream in every bite.
