  • Trifle is a dessert made by layering cake with whipped cream and custard, with fruit or berries often added in for more color and flavor. Technicolor Kitchen‘s Raspberry Trifle Cupcakes are a variation on a more classic trifle. The cupcakes start out with a moist vanilla cupcake that is packed with fresh (you could use frozen, too) raspberries and then topped with a generous amount of a rich, fluffy custard cream.
  • If you don’t still have any cranberries floating around your refrigerator after making homemade cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving, you might want to run out and get some. Cranbrry Layered Cheesecake at One Perfect Bite is a luscious, super creamy cheesecake has a layer of homemade cranberry sauce at its center and is topped with a layer of smooth sour cream and even more berries. The tangy cranberries are a lovely contrast in color, texture and flavor to the creamy cheese that makes up the rest of the cake. It’s so festive looking that it just might be the perfect holiday dessert.
  • Chestnuts are a classic holiday food – even featured in a number of Christmas songs – but I would venture to say that they are not quite as popular as they once were. Although they appear regularly in stores this time of year, many people simply don’t know what to do with them. Smitten Kitchen made some Roasted Chestnut Cookies that look like a perfect recipe for incorporating chestnuts into a holiday menu. The cookies are tender and light, packed with buttery chestnuts and lots of butter, then coated in powered sugar for a sweet finish.
  • Dinner with Julie‘s Ambrosia Apple Fritters will look absolutely divine to apple lovers. The recipe actually calls for ambrosia apples, but you can get away with using one of your other favorite varieties if you can’t find them in a store near you. The apples are cut into ring, dipped into a simple batter and deep fried until crispy. They’re sweet and tender inside, and crisp outside. Serve them for breakfast or dessert, with powdered sugar or a little bit of caramel sauce to finish them off.
  • If you are looking for a cake that will give you a big dose of both chocolate, hazelnuts and pecans, look no further than the Double Nut Drenched Chocolate Cake from Bake or Break. The cake is a triple layer cake, one of which is spiked not only with plenty of hazelnuts, but with chocolate. The baked cake layers are topped and filled with a decadent chocolate nut topping that contains pecans and frangelico liqueur. It’s like a cake version of a very gourmet candy bar, and a very impressive looking dessert on top of that.
