  • I love it when you can combine two great foods into one dish, as I did with Peach Pie Ice Cream recently. It looks like Culinary Concoctions by Peabody likes to take this approach, too, and did so with some NY Style Crumb Cake Topped Cinnamon Rolls. They’re coffee cake meets cinnamon rolls, where a crisp and flavorful streusel finishes off a batch of tender, sweet cinnamon buns. It’s a fantastic idea and definitely a great way to start the day!
  • Rustic galettes are a great alternative to baking a pie when you want to take advantage of fresh summer fruits. The Peach and Blueberry Galette that Have Spork, Will Travel put together has a quick assembly and a much shorter baking time than a regular double crust pie. The tart starts out with a single layer of crust that is placed on a baking sheet and wrapped around a fresh fruit filling.
  • When I think of Monkey Bread, I think of an ooey, gooey cinnamon bun-like dish that is loaded with cinnamon sugar. Chrysanthemum took this classic a put a very flavorful twist on it by making Monkey Bread with Vietnamese Coffee Glaze. This pull-apart bread is glazed with Vietnamese coffee and sweetened condensed milk, adding a sweet caramel flavor and a bit of a grown up touch. Regular espresso or strong coffee would be a great substitution for Vietnamese coffee if you want to try this one at home.
  • Scones usually appear at breakfast or snack time as a sweet addition to a cup of coffee or tea, but they don’t always have to be sweet. A Big Mouthful‘s Sun Dried Tomato, Basil and Feta Scones. These scones use fresh basil for maximum flavor, which goes very well with sun dried tomatoes and slightly salty feta cheese. You can eat these plain, or serve them alongside a summer salad or light meal as a great side dish.
  • The Cooking Photographer is right in saying that life is too short to eat bad pie. I’ll admit I’ve had some great pies at restaurants and bakeries before, but there is nothing that beats a great homemade pie. This Kentucky Pecan Pie is a good example of one that all pecan pie lovers should add to their to-make list. Sweet and nutty, this pie has a nice gooey filling that contrasts well with the crunch of all the pecans that go in to it and the flavor of a really classic pecan pie.
