  • It is fun to see sweet desserts inspired by savory things and that exactly describes Almost Bourdain‘s Popcorn Ice Cream with Salted Butter Caramel Sauce. The popcorn ice cream is actually infused with salty, buttery popcorn before going into the freezer to give it a savory note. The salted butter caramel sauce stands in for the salt and butter that you put onto a fresh batch of savory popcorn, only with the intensity of a sweet caramel as a base.
  • Une Gamine Dans La Cuisine threw together a batch of decadent and chewy brownies using just a few ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard. These Black and White Peanut Butter Brownies use white chocolate, peanut butter and dark chocolate to create a brownie that has a unique – and very addictive- flavor profile. Don’t worry if you’re not a white chocolate fan, as the white chocolate goes into the brownie batter to give it vanilla flavor and help create the rich, chewy texture of the bars, while the dark chocolate chunks are mixed in before baking.
  • What is better than a devil’s food chocolate cupcake? How about turning one into a Malted Chocolate Cupcake, as Alpineberry did. This feat is achieved by adding Ovaltine (which has a strong malted milk flavor) and chopped up malted balls to a batch of chocolate cupcake batter. A little chocolate frosting on top and you have a cupcake that tastes a lot like a big malty ball itself!
  • Shenandoah Valley Blueberry Cake is a must try recipe for a big batch of fresh blueberries, as Sugar & Everything Nice found out. It is moist, tender and light when it comes out of the oven, but the batter is so fluffy and thick that it holds all those juicy blueberries in place very well during baking. This is a great coffee or snack cake, the perfect thing to bring out and serve to friends on a lazy summer weekend.
  • One Perfect Bite says that friends call this Hawaiian Banana Bread King Kamehameha bread because the recipe was inspired by a bread that she sample on a trip to hawaii. The moist quick bread includes macadamia nuts and coconut for a tropical flavor, and some unexpected lemon zest to give the loaf a brightness that you normally wouldn’t find in a banana bread. Both the mac nuts and coconut are toasted before going into the bread to bring out the most of their flavors.

Hi Nicole, I was wondering why I was getting feed from your blog and now I know. Thanks so much for the link and yes, it is a delicious treat for tea. In fact I made another batch yesterday for my doggie groomer’s son.

I tried my own hand at malted chocolate cupcakes using a slightly different strategy. Here’s the link if anyone’s curious:
