Want to see a free screening of Julie & Julia?

Julie & JuliaThanks to the lovely people at Sony who set up the screening of Julie & Julia that I saw about a week ago, I have a bunch of tickets to give away to a private screening of the movie before it comes out! The screening is in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 4th, 2009, so this giveaway is only for readers in the Los Angeles area – and possibly those within driving distance, if you don’t mind spending a little time in the car. Screening time is 7pm, so make sure thar works with your schedule.

There are 10 pairs of tickets available (total of 20 tickets). To win the tickets, leave a comment with your name (first name only is ok) and your e-mail address (in the form, not in the full comment) so that I can contact you and let you know which theater to go to. Full names of all the winners will get  put on a gust list at the screening. I’ll pick 10 winners randomly and you have from today until Friday, July 24th, to sign up. Even though the winners will be picked randomly, there is a chance that I might be persuaded by commenters who sound enthusiastic, so keep that in mind when you leave your comment.

I’m sorry to have to exclude anyone from out of town, but I’ll try to have another giveaway in the not-too-distant future that everyone can participate in.

Oops – please don’t count this as a second comment – just add it into the first, maybe : )

Anyhoo, when I saw that they’d used Julia Child’s book to weave in with Julies – I ran out and read that book as well. It gave me a much better appreciation of Julia!

I can’t tell you how excited I am for this movie. I just finished teaching a class at Sur la Table on Small Bites from the South of France, two of the four recipes were adapted from Ms. Child’s book.

Mastering the Art of French Cooking has been a bible for many gourmands, present company included.

I couldn’t boil water before I started watching Julia on tv. Yes, I’m old enough to remember when she FIRST started her shows! But I didn’t just learn how to cook well…she taught me to love cooking & to do it creatively, and most of all, how to appreciate fine food! I don’t know if Meryl Streep knows how to cook, but I caught a clip of “Julie & Julia,” and she has captured the essence of Julia Child. I’d love to win those tickets!

I seriously admire Julia Child. She’s been a part of my life since I was a little kid watching her make steak tartare on late night television. I was completely grossed out by the idea of the dish but I adored her. I just got back from a trip to DC and saw her kitchen in the Smithsonian’s American History Museum. It was an awesome sight to behold. If I don’t win the tickets, I will for sure be in line to see the film on August 7th.

Ò€œIn department stores, so much kitchen equipment is bought indiscriminately by people who just come in for men’s underwear.Ò€–Julia Child
