A few years ago, I heard about a restaurant in Japan that was selling desserts that looked like “regular” food. Mamido’s Burger looks like a typical fast food restaurant, but served up burgers with sponge cake buns, chocolate cream patties and kiwi slice pickles. The fries are not potatoes, but slices of deep-fried custard. The place was a hit with locals and tourists. I heard rumors that it was especially popular with business men, who could get their sweet fix while still looking like they were chowing down on some manly, meaty food. I don’t know if the last part is true, but I can think of quite a few men who state a preference for savory foods over sweets, even though they’ll much through two chocolate cupcakes in a heartbeat.
This is probably why Bakerella decided to try her hand at making faux fast food for a Father’s Day feast. Bakerella’s menu looks nothing short of amazing, and it just takes a little bit of prep work to put it all together. The burger buns are made from vanilla cupcakes (topped with a few sesame seeds), the patty is made from rich chocolate brownies and the lettuce, ketchup and mustard are all tinted frosting. The french fries are made from sugar cookies, sliced into sticks and rolled in sugar. What a creative meal to make up for Father’s Day – or any occasion! I know I wouldn’t turn down a Brownie Burger Cupcake any day of the week.
