iSi Flex-it Measuring Cups

iSi Basics Flex-it Measuring Cups

I have funnels in a variety of sizes and shapes in my kitchen. I don’t use them that frequently, but when I do, I really appreciate how useful they are in transferring things – dry ingredients, wet ingredients, liquids – from one container to another. They give you control in a way that a pour spout on a measuring cup just doesn’t because they control the flow of your pour into your target. They don’t really give you control over measurements or volume, as regular measuring cups do, however. This set of flexible measuring cups by iSi is the first set that I’ve seen that really combine all of these features – making a very easy to use set of tools for the kitchen.

The set is made of silicone that can be pinched and bent to create a spout of any size where ever you might need it. It includes three measuring cups, with 1 cup, 2 cup and 4 cup capacities, and all are microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe and generally heat resistant up to 490F. These measures would be a good choice for any liquid ingredients, and a great choice for things that need to be melted, like chocolate, which often need to be transferred from container to container while you work.

I’d be concerned about accurate measurements from the cups. When they’re deformed, the volume inside will decrease, which means you might end up with less of an ingredient than you wanted.

SO funny! I just was at Williams Sonoma on Wednesday and saw these. They gave me such a laugh! They are quite flexible, and seem like they would work.. however I have not tried them.. so who knows? I worry about the accuracy of the volume, but I think it would only be messed up my a few millimeters, if at all. They are very much shaped and go right back to their original after you squeeze them. Heat resistant for chocolate would be so nice? I wonder, could you turn these inside out without ruining them?
