Snickers Rockin’ Nut Road Bars, reviewed

Snickers Rockin’ Nut Road

Part of me wants to believe that Halloween season just kicked into gear, but the retail reality is that Halloween decorations have been on the shelves for at least a couple of weeks, and there are already some Christmas displays going up (taking up space that, in my opinion, should still be devoted to Halloween). No matter. Halloween is still one of my favorite holidays and it’s a great time of year to sample new candies. There are lots of new flavors, limited editions and snack sizes that don’t make you feel guilty about indulging.

I picked up a package a trick-or-treat sized Snickers Rockin’ Nut Road Bars this week. CandyBlog got some samples of this bar a couple of months ago, but the “NEW!” labels on the bags make it pretty clear that this is their official release. I’m a huge fan of rocky road in general, so the concept behind these sounded right up my alley. They’re a Snickers bar with marshmallow “nougat,” caramel and chopped almonds, covered in dark chocolate.

The nougat is pretty much just marshmallow, with a much lighter consistency than the nougat usually found in a snickers. The caramel layer makes up a good proportion of the bar, and goes well with the almonds, even though the distribution of almonds from bar to bar was a bit irregular. Overall, it’s good and reminds me a lot of a Milky Way Midnight, with more of a crunch from the almonds. I still wonder how this would be if it had walnuts, the somewhat more traditional nut for rocky road, but this is one bar I wouldn’t mind getting in my bag of Halloween goodies.

I had these a few months ago as well. It was a toss-up for me…I like the dark chocolate better, but I thought the marshmallow nougat made it a bit too sweet. I’d say it was maybe a small improvement over the original Snickers, but nothing I’d go out of my way for.

Hmm, haven’t heard of those before. Sounds interesting. Definitely a must try once! Will have to see what the boys get in their trick-or-treat bags this year!

I just bought these today and I’m disappointed. I had 1 little piece of nut in the entire bite. I didn’t get much of a rocky road taste, like I would if I had rocky road ice cream.

Now that I live overseas I don’t get to taste all these cool stuff until much later.

    Miss the USA.
