October is national breast cancer awareness month, and although the month is drawing to a close, the idea behind it is to draw attention to breast cancer research and gain support for it throughout the year. There are fundraisers and walks to participate in, but as with most things, the best way to start out is to start small, with family and friends. A batch of pink ribbon cookies, for instance, might just do the trick.
This month, King Arthur Flour is offering a Pink Ribbon Cookie Kit as their part of the effort to raise awareness. The kit includes a vanilla sugar-cookie mix, white icing mix, pink food coloring, pink sprinkles and a pink Pink Ribbon cookie cutter. Their mix is all natural and, unlike some store-bought mixes, does produce an excellent result, though you could easily use the other components of the kit with the cutout cookie recipe of your choice. King Arthur Flour is also donating 10% of the proceeds from the sale of this kit to “fund-raising foundations in support of breast cancer research and patient outreach” – both of which are excellent causes and, personally, I’m glad to see that they’re including patient outreach in their charity, as well as simply giving to medical research.
