There have always been food, cooking and restaurant related video games available. Cake Mania is a very popular computer game where you run your own bakery. The (terrifying) Burger King King stars in a series and, several years back, I had a restaurant tycoon game that allowed you to digitally become a top restaurateur. Most foodie games are entertaining, but none really have all that much more going on than non-foodie games, with the exception of tasty looking graphics. There is a new game out for Nintento Wii that is worth mentioning, however, as it takes gaming for foodies to a whole new level.
Cooking Mama Cook Off is a game that takes advantage of the Wii’s unique controller to simulate cooking far more realistically than any game up until now. You can chop, fry and stir – amongst other general kitchen actions – with the controller in-hand and the game’s screen will mimic your work. It somehow makes gaming a bit more satisfying, although if you play it enough it will leave you feeling a little hungry when you’re done.

January 3, 2008This is my favorite Wii game! I can’t wait for Cooking Mama 2 to come out! Though you feel like your arm will fall off everytime you “stir! It definitely does make you hungry there are so many recipes to choose from!

January 3, 2008I wonder if they could come up with some dieting scheme that incorporated playing the game. Something along the lines of “all the satisfaction of cooking and none of the calories”. I don’t think it would be a hard sell!

January 4, 2008I know many people enjoy this game, but I couldn’t get past the annoying “Mama” character. Her voice and lilt drove me nuts. But y’all have fun with it! 🙂

January 6, 2008I have this game for the DS, and enjoyed it so much I bought it for my Wii. Both are fun, but between the two, I far prefer the DS version. The Wii version is a little trickier to play, as sometimes the movements don’t always register.
