Cookies as torture devices

hot cookies on baking sheetThough they may not be the first thing that comes to mind on the subject, cookies can be torture devices. My idea of “cookie torture” is a situation in which you have a huge pile of freshly baked cookies sitting in front of you and you really, really shouldn’t eat another because you’re already had three too many. But cookies can be used in a much more sinister way to torture someone, as well. This method doesn’t involve weight gain (as sinister as that may be to some), either.

After a drug deal gone bad, two students at Southern Illinois University kidnapped another young man, beat him and – because they were baking cookies at the time the kidnapping took place – used fresh-from-the-oven cookies to burn his neck and shoulders. Fortunately for the victim here, he didn’t sustain any severe injuries beyond bruising. The weirdness and (as much as I hate to admit it) the creativity of this endeavor on the part of the two students is almost indescribable. I bet that none of them will think of chocolate chips in the same way again.
