$25,000 Haute Chocolate

haute chocolateIt wasn’t all that long ago when I pointed out that, in pursuit of the title of the world’s most expensive dessert, a restaurant in Sri Lanka put a $14,500 dessert on their menu. But the price tag on that dish wasn’t quite high enough to keep the title of priciest indulgence with that restaurant. Serendipity 3, a New York restaurant that is known for its decadent frozen drinks, has just introduced a variation on one of it’s most popular menu items that is priced at $25,000. The Frrrozen Haute Chocolate– a spin on their Frrrozen Hot Chocolate – is a chocolate milkshake-type drink infused with 5g of 24K gold, topped with whipped cream and even more edible gold. It is served in a golden goblet, with a diamond-studded gold spoon and an 18K gold and diamond bracelet.

As if that weren’t enough, the whole concoction is topped off with La Madeline au Truffe, picked by Forbes Magazine as the most expensive chocolate in the world. Priced at around $250, the truffles are made with a truffle oil-infused dark chocolate ganache and have a French Perigord truffle at the center of each. The dessert is also accompanied by a small box of additional truffles.

It doesn’t even sound tempting to me, price tag aside.

I’ve found all that “most expensive” this or “priciest that” stuff to be pure marketing hooey. If the press stopped covering them they certainly wouldn’t make them any longer … it’s just a free commercial for whatever restaurant is promoting it.

I don’t think it really counts as being an expensive dessert if the price increases because it includes a diamond bracelet.

The company that makes the chocolate truffle also makes a great dark chocolate with burnt caramel and sea salt candy bar that’s out of this world, and a lot cheaper!

There’s actual gold IN the chocolate? Isn’t that, erm, toxic?
