Fake cakes for weddings

fake cakeWedding cakes do not come cheap. In fact, the Bridal Association of America says that the average wedding cake costs $543. And the more elaborate you want your cake to be, the more people you intend to serve, the more it is going to cost you.

One way to cut corners and reduce food costs is to cut down on the quality of the ingredients and several businesses that specialize in wedding cakes is doing just that. Cakerental.com, for example, offers fake wedding cakesthat are made out of styrofoam, but elaborately decorated with real frosting, just like any other wedding cake. A couple can rent a faux cake, use it during their party (for photos, etc) and even share the traditional first bite of cake by hiding a slice of real cake in a small compartment at the back. Then, instead of carving up the centerpiece and serving it, less expensive sheet cakes can be sliced and served to guests. The faux cake is returned after the wedding is over.

My cousin was given this option by the bakery that she bought her wedding cake from. No one in the family knew until she mentioned it a few years later.

They’ve been around for a while. I’ve seen a few and there’s nothing more sad then a tired looking cake that’s been around the block a few times.

I would have thought that the time of “elaborately decorated with real frosting” would be the expensive part. Where does the real cost saving come in?
