Baking tattoos

cupcake tattooChef tattoos¬†are nothing new and we see them from time to time in various artand news sources, but you don’t hear all that much about bakers’ tattoos. Perhaps this is because a cupcake is far less dramatic than a large knife? Some might say it is because large knives appeal to more people with tattoos than cupcakes, but I think we’ve all seen plenty of customers sporting tattoos in specialty bake shops indulging in a little buttercream. The particular tattoo pictured is sported by Bake and Destroy‘s husband and it almost looks good enough to eat – provided you don’t think to long about the fact that it’s on a man’s thigh, of course.

I can’t say that I have any tattoos, but the idea of a well-designed baked good does have appeal. What would you get if you were going to get a baking-related tattoo – or better yet, do you already have one?

  1. i don’t think I’ve told you but I love your blog! :D

I would have to get a piece of cake or a really nice looking doughnut. Not your run of the mill glazed, something fancy like a sprinkle or a cruller. :)

  2. Thankfully, it’s on his calf and not his thigh. I don’t know how I would feel about a frilly cupcakes and my name on his big, hairy thigh. We’re even, though, I have a high top Nike Dunk and his name on my back.

  3. It’s not a baking tat but I have a green apple on the back of my neck because I like them a lot.

  4. My tat would be of a spoonful of brown sugar, my one true and everlasting love.

  5. I should add that this tattoo was done by Chris Smith at Taylor Street Tattoo, Chicago.

  6. I’ve been thinking about getting a thistle tattoo, what with the thistle’s connection to shortbread, one of my favorite things to bake. Too bad I’m not Scottish!

P.S. I just found your blog, and love it!

  7. I actually just got a tattoo of an animal cookie (the pink, sprinkled kind) and I love it! My artist was so excited when I told her what I wanted to do, she told everyone else in the shop and they all came to see when it was done. Good for him to not be afraid of something different!

  8. To the girl that got the animal cookie tattoo, do you have a pic? I want to do something like that but with a cupcake :)

  9. im thinking about getting a cupcake but i dont want jsut any old cupcake…im a baker and i love tats, so im thinking of getting a sparrow with a chefs hat and a whisk under her wing? cute or no? let me know

  10. I wanted the Morton salt girl on my back for the longest time, but then I saw an episode of Anthony Bordaine and some other girl had it! So now I’m stumped. And mad.Urgh.

  11. I have a raspberry on my wrist for my grandpa :)

  12. I’m a pastry chef, and I have 3 smiling cupcakes under a big rainbow on my arm. It’s my favorite tattoo yet!

  13. im also a pastry chef and i plan on getting a 3/4 sleeve of all things baking/food , i started with cherries but the plan is to get a cupcake ,rolling pin , knife, maybe some cookie cutters , carrots and misc. veg, maybe some wheat. i actually came across this blog looking for more ideas.
